The death of Anglo-Somali punk icon and X-Ray Spex frontwoman Poly Styrene sends her daughter Celeste Bell on a journey across the world and through her mother’s archives to reconcile their fraught relationship.
Celeste unpacks Poly's artistic legacy we see how Poly’s experiences of race and culture take shape in the writing of her now infamous songs like ‘Germ Free Adolescence’, ‘Identity’ and ‘Oh Bondage Up Yours’. We intercut this with an extensive archive of Poly, some previously unseen.
