Scaling Up: Feature Filmmaking and Working with Producers for Artist Filmmakers
An online conversation with artist filmmaker Suki Chan, hosted by Luke Moody, Head of the BFI Doc Society Fund.

Join us online for an open and practical conversation aimed at artist filmmakers considering a transition from self-producing to working with a producer, or moving from gallery exhibition to cinema. The session will look at the benefits and complexities of the director-producer relationship, and explore how artists can expand their practice into new realms without losing the approaches, perspectives and creative independence that underpin their work.
This event will centre on a case study with artist and filmmaker Suki Chan, exploring her experience of making work across gallery exhibition and cinema, including her first feature documentary, Conscious (2026). Suki will share insights into the journey from developing an idea as an artist to working with a producer, expanding her practice into feature-length filmmaking, and bringing the finished work to cinema audiences.
